Megumi + Sydney | Atrium Wedding

I love love loved Megumi and Sydney’s wedding at The Atrium in Shorewood. Because of COVID *insert eye roll here* they waited over 600 days to finally tie the knot. So, to say it was special is an understatement.

One of the things I loved most about Megumi and Sydney’s wedding was how they involved their friends and family in everything. This involvement created a really intimate and special day, even with many people coming out to celebrate.

They set aside a good chunk of time between their first look and their ceremony so we were able to take our time wandering around the city for photos. They had their friend, Phil, drive them, which meant we had to get some photos with him at the end of posed formals. Their friend, Jordan, officiated. Sydney’s brother sang “Simply the Best” during their ceremony. Megumi’s aunt gave a reading (more to come on this – it was so amazing). One of their friends made their cake. Their speeches by family and friends were amazing and heartfelt. Their day was full of all the emotions shared by all the people, which made everything super special. Sydney also surprised Megumi by bringing a videographer in to capture the ceremony and speeches for Megumi’s dad, who was in Japan and couldn’t attend the wedding.

Aside from all of these special contributions, their day was full of so many unique elements, like the reading by her aunt. The reading was a reflection on Loving v. Virginia, which was important to them as a biracial couple. But it was also important because Megumi is Japanese American. William M. Marutani of the Japanese American Citizens League made arguments during the case, which is something I was unaware of. It was a really lovely and special reflection on how this case made their union possible. Their first dance was to Prime Time by one of my personal favorites, Janelle Monae. It was lovely and unique and I just love a first dance song I’ve never heard before. They had late night tacos – which might be the best late night food available – from one of the best taco trucks in town.

So, yeah, I’m kind of obsessed with Megumi and Sydney’s wedding at The Atrium, and I bet you can see why!
