Linda & Holly l Mexican Pre-Wedding Ceremony l Destination Photographer

Rockford IL Wedding

I think you all know by now that any non-traditional wedding or ceremony is my kind of vibe. That’s why when my friend from childhood, Linda, invited me to be part of her and Holly’s Mexican pre-wedding ceremony in Rockford, Illinois, I was so honored and excited.

Linda and Holly planned this amazing pre-wedding ceremony for two reasons. First, Linda is of Mexican descent. So, it was really important for her to show their friends and family the beauty of Mexican culture. Second, due to Covid, many of their favorite people weren’t going to be able to attend their upcoming destination wedding in Sedona. To be able to include them in this Mexican pre-wedding ceremony was really important to them, even if some of the family participated via Zoom, just to keep everyone safe.

This ceremony may have been important to Linda and Holly, but it was a dream for me. They hosted the event in a gorgeous, Mexican inspired home, which was appropriately named The Sedona Home. The couple wore amazing traditional Mexican dresses and flower crowns. They were so colorful and bold and really brought out the pure joy and the honoring of culture they were hoping for while planning the event.

Linda and Holly surprised their guests with a traditional dance upon arrival. The celebration continued with some delicious Mexican food from a local Mexican restaurant. Custom cookies decorated with the Mexican flag and piñatas were served. Speaking of piñatas, Linda’s dad choose a stunning piñata to include in the celebration. All of the guests got a chance to hit the piñata, including me, which took me back to Linda’s childhood birthday parties and the excitement that the piñata always brought us.

I’m a huge believer that cultural traditions are meant to be celebrated and shown to the world, especially those that aren’t commonly seen. To have been a part of this Mexican pre-wedding ceremony was definitely a highlight of my career and I’m so honored to be able to share it with the world.
